Men’s Hockey

Often at a loss when searching for that “perfect” gift? Here’s an idea.

Come November, Tiger Hockey fans will have a chance to experience the annual battle for the Gold Pan from an insider’s perspective.

Rival Films, LLC, is busy this summer putting the finishing touches on a full-length video that showcases the annual competition between Colorado College and the University of Denver for bragging rights along the Front Range.

The DVD, featuring game footage from last season as well as interviews with team members past and present from both teams, will retail for $14.95 once available this fall, just in time for the holidays. Stay tuned on CC Tigers.

An abbreviated version of the video also is expected to air on a prominent sports network.

Meanwhile, two Tigers-to-be – forward Jaden Schwartz and defenseman Peter Stoykewych – were selected by NHL teams during the league’s entry draft in late June. Schwartz was a first–round pick of St. Louis. Stoykewych, who won’t enroll at CC until fall of 2011, was a seventh-round pick of the Atlanta Thrashers.

Like the hockey team, whose roster will include five Canadians along with sophomore forward Scott Winkler of Asker, Norway, for the 2010-11 season, the women’s soccer program has adopted more of an international look for this fall.

Among CC’s incoming class of recruits, which numbers nine freshmen altogether, are Catherine Zaumseil of Düsseldorf, Germany, and Yumi Nguyen of Wellington, New Zealand.

Both are expected to make an impact as the Tigers head into their fifth season as an affiliate member of Conference USA, where they finished second with an 8-2-1 record in league play in 2009.

“This is a very talented class,” head coach Geoff Bennett said of his nine newcomers. “They will contribute a lot. That being said, they need to come in here and win spots; nothing will just be given to them.”

His 1:53.14 clocking was .92 seconds faster than James Rankin’s (Class of ’92) mark, which had stood since 1990. Dsida, Dan Kraft ’11 and Andrew Wagner ’11 earned all-conference honors at the 2010 SCAC Championships.
