Tiger Pride dvdAn Inside, In-Depth Look at Tiger Hockey — On Film

Check this out, Colorado College alumni and hockey fans. Here’s a treat you won’t want to miss.

Relive your favorite team’s history, as told by those actually responsible for the story, as it never has been seen or heard before.

Recently released in DVD format, “Tiger Pride — Eight Decades of CC Hockey” traces the program’s evolution from a rag-tag industrial league outfit in the mid-1930s through its two national championships in the 1950s to its present-day status as a perennial powerhouse in the ranks of NCAA Division I.

On sale ($14.95) at http://www.rivalfilms.com/store/, the DVDs also are available at the CC bookstore, as well as at the Colorado Springs World Arena during home games.

The movie is narrated by Mike “Doc” Emrick, Hall of Fame announcer and the voice of the NHL on NBC and Versus. Produced by Rival Films, LLC, it features interviews with players, coaches, and administrators involved with the team from as far back as 1937. And, thanks to a unique behind-the-scenes approach that utilizes archived photographs as well as extremely rare video footage, viewers will experience an inside, in-depth look at how Tiger Hockey became what it is today.

“Tiger Pride — Eight Decades of CC Hockey” also will air on the NHL Network.

Note: This film evolved from a project that originally was meant to feature Colorado College’s rivalry on the ice with the University of Denver. Plans for that movie were scrapped, and a new direction taken, in August due to a breakdown in negotiations between DU and the filmmaker.

Women’s Soccer

While CC tied for eighth place in Conference USA and fell short of qualifying for the league playoffs, a number of Tigers earned impressive post-season accolades.

Defender Sydney Fetter ‘11, an economics major with a cumulative GPA of 3.80, was named to the ESPN Academic All-District 7 (University Division) first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America and officially became a candidate for Academic All-America distinction.

Fetter also was voted to All-Academic first team in C-USA while four other players received All-Conference honors for their contributions on the field.

Forward Tiffany Brown ‘11 , who led CC in scoring with 16 points (6 goals, 4 assists) was a first-team selection for the second consecutive season. Defender Sierra Keeler ’14 and goalkeeper Caitlin Hulyo ’12 garnered second-team recognition, while forward Brittney Lyman ’13 secured a spot on the third team. Keeler also was named to the All-Freshman Team.

Colorado College finished with a 4-6-1 record in C-USA play and an 8-7-4 mark overall, logging its 32nd winning season in 36 years as an NCAA Division I program.

Volleyball

Colorado College earned its 13th consecutive berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs by winning the SCAC tournament and received the top seed in its regional for the second year in a row. The Tigers overcame a one-set deficit to defeat DePauw University in the conference championship match to win CC’s first-ever title and receive an automatic bid to NCAAs. The team has posted back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time in program history.

Emily Perkins ’11 was named SCAC Player of the Year, while Rick Swan earned Coach of the Year honors, for their efforts in leading Colorado College to a share of first place and the top seed for the conference tournament. Setter Amy Schornack ’12 joined Perkins on the all-conference first team. Right-side hitter Meredith Ballard ’12 earned a spot on the second team, while middle blocker Erika Pirotte ’11 was a third-team selection.

Men’s Cross Country

Jackson Brainerd ‘12 and the men’s cross country team successfully defended their SCAC championships on Oct. 30. The Tigers finished with 57 points to win their second consecutive team title and the third in four years. Brainerd completed the 8K course in 25:09.6 to repeat as Runner of the Year while winning his fifth individual title in six events this season. Men’s Soccer

CC celebrated 60 years of men’s soccer with a reception following the game against Carnegie Mellon University on Sept. 17. More than 100 former players, administrators, families, and supporters were among those in attendance. After remarks by head coach Horst Richardson, several former players shared memories from their careers. Scrapbooks and other artifacts from many of the 60 years were on display. Colorado College has made 18 NCAA tournament appearances at both the Division I and III levels, including a trip to the 1992 DIII national semifinals, and won several RMISL titles — including the league’s final championship in 1991 — while playing against the likes of Air Force, the University of Denver, and the Colorado School of Mines. The program also has produced more than 30 Phi Beta Kappa Scholars, Academic All-Americans, two Fulbright Scholars, and many other recipients of academic awards. On the pitch, six different Tigers earned All-America honors, including Carnegie Mellon head coach Arron Lujan ’95, who was recognized in 1994.
