Springfield attorney Debra Gunkel was appointed by former Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter to the position of Baca County Court judge. The appointment was one of six new county and district court judges selected by the Colorado governor. Debra has been an attorney since 1994 and has worked for the district attorney’s office in Lamar. She has a law firm in Springfield. “At this point in my life, with my daughter away at college, I can focus on the things that have always driven me, one of which is law,” she told the Pueblo Chieftain newspaper.

Mary Ruble, senior vice president of wealth management and securities services for U.S. Bancorp., was recognized as one of 64 women leaders ranked among the Top Banking Teams for 2010 by U.S. Banker magazine.

David Schaeffer ’81

David Schaeffer ’81 is a board member of the Pentagon Foundation, which hosted former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at its annual gala. The event raised more than $650,000 for the foundation’s programs that support men and women in the military. David’s current focus is to finish raising $14 million to build the first Defenders Lodge, a facility that will support the thousands of veterans who travel to the Veterans Administration hospital in Palo Alto, Calif.

Erica Marie Berens has completed a master’s degree program in holistic nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health. She has been living in Snowmass Village, Colo., since 1992 and is opening a yoga studio there. She also operates a nutritional consulting business and has been teaching yoga since 2003. Erica is also a backcountry guide, leading supper hikes and winter snowshoeing trips in the area, and she has created a line of handmade aromatherapy products, Four Seasons AromaTherapy.

Gail Tate, Mary Safford Mourar, and Gretchen Lockwood celebrated a mini Class of ’82 reunion in Georgia last October. The friends enjoyed the beach and seafood on Jekyll Island, as well as the history and architecture of Savannah. They reminisced about life on the second floor of Mathias, dinners in Bemis Hall, and 32 years of friendship.
