Ellen Guthrie came in first in the women’s 50+ category in the UCI Masters Mountain Bike World Championships in the south of Brazil in September 2010. In 2009, she rode to the bronze medal at the World Championships in PraLoup, France. This time, she toed the line at 8:30 a.m. for three laps of a five-mile course.

Jo Ann Viola Salazar ’80 and Mark D. Colburn

Jo Ann Viola Salazar married Mark D. Coburn on August 7, 2010. Among the guests was Heather Featherstone Callaway ’96. After a two-week train trip all over the place, the couple is happily at home in Durango.

Heidi Pace has been named superintendent of Summit School District in Summit County, Colo. She was previously the deputy superintendent of Academy School District 20 in Colorado Springs. Heidi received her bachelor of arts in history and master’s in elementary education from CC, and earned her Ph.D. in leadership and public policy at the University of Denver. She worked in the Academy District for 26 years, since her start as a teacher.

Harlene Hayne has become the first woman vice-chancellor of the University of Otago in New Zealand. She received her master’s degree and Ph.D. from Rutgers University, N.J. She spent four years as a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University before beginning her career at Otago as a lecturer in the psychology department. She is a respected researcher and is author or co-author of more than 80 journal articles, 20 book chapters, a book on memory development, and editor of six other academic titles pertaining primarily to infancy research. • CC alumni gathered at the beach house of John Baumstark ’84 in Watercolor, Fla: Rich Laws ’84, Peter Armstrong, Kelly Powers ’84, Brad Lundberg, Eric Tibby ’84, and Tom Levy ’84.

Bill C. Berger has joined the firm of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck in Denver, as a shareholder in the corporate and
business group. In his new role, Bill will apply his knowledge of employment law to the firm’s growing practice area. Most recently, Bill was a shareholder at Stettner Miller, P.C. His practice focuses on representation of management and employers in labor and employment law matters, including both preventive counseling and litigation.
