Colorado College is offering a new major in film and new media studies, and a new thematic minor in global health. Both went into effect this fall.

The film and new media studies major is a response to student interest, expertise, and demand. It also is a result of the Cornerstone Arts Initiative, which stresses interdisciplinary teaching of the arts, using technology to facilitate collaboration between departments. Assistant Professor of New Media Scott Krzych and Film Studies Artists-in-Residence Clay Haskell and Dylan Nelson are the advisors for the new major.

The global health thematic minor was proposed by Andrew Price-Smith, associate professor of political science, and Wade Roberts, associate professor of sociology. “A growing student movement for global health equity and social justice has sparked a desire to understand complex issues of health inequality,” their proposal stated. The thematic minor in global health encompasses interests of students from a wide range of departments, including biology, political science, economics, sociology, and anthropology. Students will choose courses in three categories: sustainability/development; medicine; and policy.
