1980

In December, Dirk Tyler ’80, left, and Charley Mace ’80 traveled to the 2,000-foot limestone cliffs of renowned rock-climbing area El Potrero Chico in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. They were following in the footsteps of Norm Chu ’80, who climbed new routes 30 years earlier. All three met while teammates on the CC swim team and developed their rockclimbing skills at the Garden of the Gods.

1985

Kristin Yanz Stutz has been promoted to assistant regional academic dean at the Amarillo Regional Campus, Texas Tech University School of Medicine.

1986

Kraig Ecton was appointed a county court judge for the 8th Judicial District (Larimer County) in Colorado by Gov. John Hickenlooper; the appointment took effect Dec. 31, 2013. Previously, he worked for the Fort Collins City Attorney’s Office, where he practiced municipal law with an emphasis in police services, municipal court management and prosecution, information systems, and real estate.

Emily Anderson was appointed a district judge in Colorado’s 17th Judicial District (Adams and Broomfield counties). She previously served as magistrate for the district, where she presided over civil, domestic relations, juvenile, and criminal matters. She earned her J.D. from the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver.

1987

Lisa Holtby and her husband, David Hlavsa, were featured in a New York Times series about family called, “Making It Last.”

Evan Morgan Williams’s manuscript collection of short stories, “Thorn,” has won the G. Sharat Chandra Prize from BkMk Press at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The collection is being published in 2014. Evan’s first published short story was in The Leviathan at CC.

Dorothy Nichols was named one of Bicycle Retailer’s 50 most influential women driving the business. Dorothy is the national sales manager of SheBeest and previously worked for the National Off-Road Bicycle Association, Yeti Cycles, and Catalyst Communication, among other bicycle-centric entities. Dorothy also earned her juris doctorate at the University of Denver.

Margot Burns has been named assistant athletic director and coach of middle school boys’ soccer, in addition to teaching math at St. Andrews-Sewanee School in Sewanee, Tenn.

1988

Sara V. Turner umpired for the 2013 Senior League Softball World Series in Lower Sussex, Del. She began her umpiring career in 1995 in Granby, Colo., and, in 2004, moved to Tucson Ariz., where she continued to umpire Little League and high school softball and baseball.  She attended the weeklong Little League Umpire School in 2008 and has umpired the Junior League Western Regional Softball Tournament every year since 2005. She serves as umpire-in-chief of Arizona District 5 Little League, a position she’s held since 2006.
