“One has to admire the human spirit’s will to survive and to do what one needs to do to create a life. Cubans love their country; they just want their lives to be better than the previous generation and their children to have better lives than theirs,” Anita Pariseau, director of alumni relations, said of her experience during CC’s first special block break. On March 30, 32 alumni and friends accompanied Pariseau on the sold-out trip to Cuba led by Associate Professor of Sociology Eric Popkin. Participants traveled for nine days, soaking in history, culture, and Cuban perspectives, and navigated historical context from a social and economic perspective with Popkin’s guidance. Interest in the program was so strong that the college will consider repeating it in the future, and Pariseau is exploring adding six to eight new programs in 2015.
