Role Description

Summary:

Under the guidance of the Senior Director, Performance Projects, and the Associate Director, Integrated Health and Athlete Performance, the CC Extern will collaborate with sports medicine and science providers, as well as the USOPC data professionals, to develop processes and systems around technology and data analytics. The goal is to drive engagement with the USOPC’s data platforms and help build efficiencies within the USOPC’s data practices, which will help drive enhanced communication across departments and assist in building out capabilities and tools to support the effective utilization of data from data collection to analysis to feedback. This position will also assist in helping to grow the technological capabilities of the USOPC, focusing specifically on video capture, analysis (including AI and machine learning), and integration with performance data.


As part of this position, the USOPC is prepared to develop a formal education curriculum to support this position (e.g. regular education sessions, hands-on learning opportunities, practical exercises, etc.).   The Extern will also be given ownership of a project with the expectation that the Extern will produce a deliverable (e.g. white paper, educational materials, documented process, computer code, etc.) that can enhance her/his portfolio of work while also providing a needed resource to the USOPC.


Duties & Responsibilities

Assess USOPC sports performance, medicine, and science data policies and practices to help develop best practices (the ‘Team USA Way’) around such things as:

workflows and systems involving data collection to maintain quality·        Data tables to maximize data integrity, producing weekly reports to the relevant stakeholders of the data source

Data security and permissions to relevant stakeholders, eliminating redundancies and building efficiencies around data access.

2. In partnership with Technology, Innovation, and Performance Analytics teams, conduct various data-related tasks including collection and entry, cleaning and validation, and analysis.

3. Assist in the development and construction of tools (e.g. coding) to support various aspects of data analysis – from data collection to feedback. Assist in the activation, implementation, and utilization tracking of these tools.

4. In partnership with members of the Technology, Innovation, and Performance Analytics teams, work to build performance pipelines for Olympic and Paralympic sports in an effort to understand the developmental athlete, the paths they can take to become an elite level performer, and how to stay healthy in the process.

5. Work with members of the Technology, Innovation, and Performance Analytics teams to analyze video to support Team USA athletes, to include manually tagging video of key events in specific sport video and working with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning tools to help automate processes.

6. Conduct research and develop whitepapers/position papers on various technologies (e.g. wearable devices) to assist Technology and Data initiatives in support of athlete health and performance.

7. Work with Technology, Innovation, and Performance Analytics teams to develop strategies for effective storage of video, as well as ways to integrate video with performance data.

8. Perform other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics, Biostatistics, Health Informatics, Epidemiology, or related field

Current student or recent graduate of The Colorado College

Equivalent job experience or applicable college/university level classes may be combined for this requirement

Experience:

Working knowledge of applied sport science or clinical statistical analysis; applicable coursework or internships may be combined for this requirement

Experience with a variety of statistical software (Excel, Tableau, R)·        Previous work with video with an understanding of video analysis·        Previous coding experience preferred

Skills:

Ability to handle confidential information and communicate only to intended audience

Training/skill in data management software preferred

Excellent oral and written communication skills including editing documents

Proficient in word processing and desktop publishing

Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

Basic computer skills in database management; skill in coding preferred

Passion for Team USA and the ideals of the Olympic and Paralympic movements

Office environment in a multi-story building on a multi-building complex   

Non-traditional work hours including evenings and weekends

Some travel possible to engage with athletes, teams, or events in support of USOPC Data and Technology initiatives

Regular attendance at work is an essential job function
