Windows going in for El Pomar south addition; Turf in place on Washburn Field

Windows were being installed on Wednesday onto the southern “Gateway” offices and classroom addition along Cache La Poudre Street as part of the first part of the three-phase, $27 million renovations and new construction project at the El Pomar Sports Center.

Exterior brick continues to be laid onto the western side of the new addition while interior finishing work continues. The addition should be enclosed later this month.

The athletics department staff and coaches are scheduled to move into their new offices in late July, less than two weeks after the original date of July 15.  Glass for the new vestibule for the Schlessman Natatorium is scheduled to be installed next week.

On the northern side, more foundation work continued with the pouring of the first caissons for the new fitness center on Wednesday as seen in this video. More dirt removal also continues (video) near the Washburn Field grandstand.

The new field turf for Washburn Field is partially installed with some corners folded back to make room for the track installation later this summer. The crews are working hard to ready the field for the first home soccer games in mid-August.

Construction of a new two-level press box on the western side of the field, with windows facing the Burghart tennis courts and Washburn, is set to begin in about two weeks. The courts are also undergoing some improvements and resurfacing.
