El Pomar Sports Center

Interior work continues on second

This picture gives you a hint of the better sense of open space for the new Great Hall with the old bathrooms demolished and glass doors connecting the current building with the new fitness center addition to be completed next spring. To the left, a new row of bathrooms is being installed behind the stack metal framing pictured.  The view of the second floor of the El Pomar Sports Center is from near the former athletic department offices which are gutted.

The former assistant basketball and volleyball coaches offices, along with the head hockey and women’s soccer coaches, pictured at left were demolished to make room for what will be a Hall of Fame lounge.

The demolition for Reid gymnasium is completed and the new East-West configuration looks roomy with new bleachers yet to be installed.

The new basketball floor will be installed this summer along with new seating, lighting and sound.

All the work is part of three-phase, $27 million renovations and new constriction project at the center, which began in late October 2011. The southern offices classroom addition is scheduled to open later this summer.
