El Pomar Sports Center

Renovations update; new name for big gym

A lot of progress was made recently on the new varsity weight and fitness room on the first floor of the El Pomar Sports Center, which is undergoing a three-phase, $27 million series of renovations and new construction. The large facility will be a rarity among Division III programs and the addition of a new strength and conditioning coach should be a huge benefit for the programs. The size of the facility, which took over the demolished Turf Room and continues through the two doorways in the right background of this photo, is impressive. The facility with have 12 free weight sets in the center of the room along with conditioning equipment, such as exercise bikes and treadmills, along the wall in the left background.

One of the big deliveries this Wednesday was the materials for new gym equipment and bleachers, pictured,  for the new Reid Arena, formerly the Reid Gym and often called the Big Gym by staff and students.

Materials for a new counter to help complete the entrance to the athletic administration offices on the second floor are also due to arrive soon.

Anyone driving onto campus by going east on Cache La Poudre Street will want to avoid the construction zone west of Cascade.

With the large trucks required for deliveries, traffic jams are common, especially with the Honnen Ice Arena and Schlessman Natatorium remaining open and in full use.
