Extracurricular:

Aikido:  Established a new CCCA Club; taught classes in this defensive Japanese martial art from 1980-2000

Reiki: available to students interested in energy healing (non-credit) Over 500 people taught in Reiki 1 classes, more than 30 Reiki masters taught

Shield classes: traditional Hopi-based medicine classes in four directions (non-credit)

Japanese Culture: Established relationships with other groups to teach Shiatsu, Ikebana, and Japanese Cooking and Dancing on campus

A.S.I.A.:  advisor to student group interested in Asia (1983-89)

Earth House (1988-89): advisor to environmental theme house

Nonviolence Theme House (1992-93): advisor

Japan House (1993-96): advisor

Led local field trips for: 4‑H (March 1982); Knox College (March 1983); Springs Area Beautiful Association (May 1984); Lilly Foundation (June 1984‑1988);  Colorado State Teachers Association (October 1985); Trinity University (1991)

Dormitory Program: Led programs in geology, ecology, and Japan

Lectures to other classes: Geology of Central America, Geology of Japan, An experience with Japanese Education, Geology of Asia, Volcanoes, Earthquakes

Community Activities:

Lectures:  Delivered talks on local geology to community groups (Gold Prospector’s Club,

Pikes Peak Mineralogical Society, Colorado Association of Science Teachers, Colorado Mountain Club, Bear Creek Docents, Garden of the Gods Park Interpretive Staff, Rotary Club, Sertoma Club, Cheyenne Mountain Adult Education); on Earthquakes and Volcanoes to Kiwanis Club (PA), Cheyenne Mountain Adult Education.

Energy Resources Center: Member of Board of Directors (1988-1989)

SpABA:  Chairman of the Environmental Committee (1982-1986). Involved with debate over city policy on building on the local flood plains (e.g. Corporate Centre); building on Rampart Heights; concerns with local parks, tailings in Gold Hill Mesa, and other development projects.

Secondary Schools:  Arranged geology lectures, participated in Career Days, judged Science Fair exhibits, delivered science keynote lecture on Gaia, Aikido and new directions in science.

Scouting:  Merit badge counselor.
