Celebrating Bill Barton (’57)!

Recently, we announced the establishment of the Bill Barton Endowed Professorship in Business and Economics (see the proclamation and some photos from the event below). We are grateful to our leading donors – Andy ’85 and Carolyn ’86 Stenovec, Sue Allon ’81, Adam Farver’ 99, and Dennis and Connie Keller, P’91, P’95 – and more than 60 other alumni, parents and friends of the college who made this professorship possible. Professor Judy Laux ’77 will be the first CC faculty member to hold the professorship.

Whereas Professor Emeritus William E. Barton was a graduate, cum laude, of The Colorado College in 1957, and

Whereas Professor Emeritus Barton was a distinguished professor at The Colorado College from 1958 to 1997, and

Whereas Professor Emeritus Barton received the Gresham Riley Award from The Colorado College Alumni Association in 2000, in recognition of his loyal and unwavering support of his alma mater and for making a significant difference to the college community through outstanding service, commitment, and accomplishments, and

Whereas Professor Emeritus Barton made an equally significant impact on the lives of students at The Colorado College while a professor in the Business and Economics Department, known especially for his accounting courses, and

Whereas students, faculty, friends, family, and administrators wish to recognize Professor Emeritus Barton for his instruction in the classroom, his commitment to students and the college, his unique style, his friendship, his smile that lights up his entire face, and an encyclopedic memory of his students,

Therefore, be it declared that The Colorado College Proclaims that the Bill Barton Endowed Professorship is hereby established, this 15th day of November, 2012,

It is declared that certain Colorado College professors who share these attributes shall be honored by being known as the Bill Barton Professor henceforth.

Now therefore, I, Jill Tiefenthaler, President of The Colorado College, with respect and admiration, set my hand to this document, November 15, 2012.

Bill was a great friend, man, professor. What CC professors should be to students, always caring most about their learning. The outstanding teacher, gold-standard good guy. Many of us shall miss him very much.
