Knocking at the College Door

A new report, Knocking on the College Door, a publication of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, shows that students of color will account for almost half of public high school graduates by 2020. You can view the report and an interactive map of the percentage of students of color among high school graduates by state at the link above.

The map shows that students of color will make up 36% of high school grads in Colorado by 2020. In the other top states for Colorado College recruiting, the numbers are also growing:

California – 71%     Massachusetts – 31%     Illinois – 42%     Texas – 70%

Clearly, continuing to build a diverse and inclusive campus will be key to Colorado College’s academic excellence in the coming decade.

I love that you see this as a priority for CC – one of the hardest things for me to stomach at CC was always the racial (and economic disparity) between CC and the rest of the country. I truly hope that this is sincere and the school will take action that reflects this sentiment.
