MOOCs: Finding the Path Forward

Along with three other higher ed experts, I was recently interviewed by Evisions  for their YouTube channel about the role, shortcomings and benefits of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses, for those of you who haven’t followed all of the press on this newest fad). You can check out the interview at http://youtu.be/RSDW9AmM0k4.

As I say in the interview, while I don’t see MOOCs competing with or replacing a residential, liberal arts undergraduate education, there are some exciting possibilities for MOOCs in terms of reaching the underserved around the globe and as a tool in the flipped classroom. These are exciting times!

Thanks for posting this Jill, I found the interviews interesting. I also agree that MOOCs are really full of potential to augment education and as an additional option for people eager to learn, but that they won’t replace the classroom as some articles suggest. As is often the case with new technology, there’s room for both-and, not just either-or.
