As we welcome the Class of 2022, it is interesting to note that 65 students (about 12% of the class) took a gap year.
CC was recently featured in Abigail Falik and Linda Frey’s commentary, “The Best Freshman Year Is a Gap Year”, in The Chronicle of Higher Education. The piece cites the Gallup-Purdue Index, which indicates that experiences that require initiative and agency are the strongest predictors of future success. Falik and Frey argue a purposeful gap year can serve as one such transformative experience.
The commentary references CC as an example of an admissions office that provides useful gap-year resources for its prospective students. In fact, CC is among the colleges with the highest percent of gap year students. CC also offers a Fall Semester Away program, which allows first-year students to complete the first four blocks of their coursework while traveling in Costa Rica and Belize.
