In Memory of Professor Dennis Showalter

Professor Emeritus Dennis Showalter (History) died last week at age 77. He taught for 47 years at Colorado College.
Showalter was instrumental in shaping the study of military history, and was working on his 28th book, “Modern Warfare,” when he passed. In 2018, Showalter won the Pritzker Military Museum and Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing. He was a founding board member for the Institute for the Study of War in Washington, D.C., and a former president for the Society for Military History.
Showalter is survived by his wife, Clara Anne McKenna, and his children Clara Kathleen and John Showalter. Services will be announced at a later date. Read more about Showalter’s life and legacy here.
