Wednesday, March 14th, 12-2 p.m.
RSVP at tinyurl.com/y8nkwdpu
This is a two-hour lunch-time session geared for both faculty and staff. In the first hour CC grants professionals Tess Powers, Ina Remus and Laura Hines will describe their respective roles on campus and how they serve as resources for the CC community. They will highlight some of the ways the CC community continues to benefit from grants awarded years ago as well as share information on some of the College’s most recent grants. The first hour will conclude with a “Top 10”-style countdown of some of the more common myths of the grants world. In the second hour, attendees will be invited to break into smaller groups to discuss projects/ideas/collaborations that might be suitable for an external grant; this is an opportunity to start brainstorming both for individual projects as well as for possible institutional efforts. Attendees will then spend some time exploring the College’s grants database, Pivot. Anyone with a general interest in grants is welcome – there is no expectation that you will apply for a grant as a result of this session.

You may have heard of Google’s computer program AlphaGo that plays the board game GO and beat a human Go master. Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes? How does a computer program make decisions? Come to one or both of the fearless Friday talks hosted by the math& CS department this week and find out!
On Friday March 9th at 12pm in Tutt science lecture hall(122) we will have a talk titled Artificial Intelligence Algorithms:What Are They And How They Work. This talk does not require extensive mathematical or computer science knowledge. If you know what an equation of a plane is this talk is for you. We will provide pizza and drinks.
On the same day at 3pm in Tutt science 229, there will be another talk titled Towards Manifold Learning as Technology. This talk is more technical but we would love to have you!
