Avant-garde Artists and the Russian Revolution. Talk by prof. Ruth Kolarik. We will discuss the interactions of the visual arts with social and political movements in early-twentieth-century Russia especially the impact of the Russian Revolution. How do revolutions in avant garde art relate, or not, to political revolution? We will see works by artists such as Natalia Goncharova, Vladimir Tatlin, Kazimir Malevich, Alexander Rodchenko, El Lissitzky as well as artists who worked in the style of socialist realism. Today, 3:30pm, Russian (Mullett) House. Russian tea and pasties are provided.
