We are looking for a responsible college-age student with their own transportation to provide afterschool care for our fourth- and sixth-grade girls for the 2018-19 school year. Our current homework buddy, a UCCS student, graduated this spring and is no longer. The school year begins August 15. Some full days needed during school breaks or scheduled days off upon need and availability.

Where: Located in the southern part of Colorado Springs, pick up daily at Vanguard School and bring kids home, and occasionally to afterschool activities as scheduled (soccer, cross country, track, guitar, acting, etc.).

Typical Week: Monday-Thursday (3-5:30 pm) and Friday (1:30-5:30 pm); some pick-ups may be a bit later based on afterschool activities. A typical day includes overseeing the homework process, providing help as necessary and checking work; post-homework, fun activities outside as weather permits and inside when necessary. Our girls like to hike and be active and are always open to an adventure.

Pay: Weekly cash salary of $185 (works out to approximately $13/hr.); for any full days during school breaks or scheduled days off, if needed, $85/day (approximately 8 am -5:00 pm)

American Sign Language, AN123 Adjunct Blocks 1-4,Thursdays, First class-August 30, 2018; 4 – 6 p.m., Barnes Science Center, #407
This adjunct course (one-quarter credit) is an introduction to ASL (American Sign Language) with an emphasis on both expressive and receptive skills. The instructor, Paul Simmons, is a Deaf signer with comprehensive teaching experience. Students will be introduced to Deaf Studies, differences between deaf and hearing worlds, and basic communication techniques. Beginners and more advanced signers are welcome.
