Scene Study Workshop
by Arom Choi, CalArts
Cornerstone Screening Room
Monday, May 13
We will read a 2-page length script excerpt and explore ‘What is the scene about?-What is the goal of the scene?’ through a table read and a group discussion. That would lead to a second discussion about how we could craft the scene to deliver what we have discovered together.
The goal is to practice the most important decision we have to make as a filmmaker: What is the MOVIE about? I’m not talking about the plot, it is more about the theme/emotionality/spine/arc of the story, and being able to build the personal relationship with the material-either it is written by ourselves or other people-because that is what determines the style, ultimately.
