Ramadan is observed by\u00a0Muslims worldwide as a month of\u00a0fasting,\u00a0extra\u00a0prayer, reflection, and\u00a0increased charity and generosity. It is also a time of\u00a0community,\u00a0celebration, and joy. A commemoration of Muhammad\u2019s first revelation,\u00a0the annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the\u00a0Five Pillars of Islam,\u00a0and lasts for a month, from one sighting of the\u00a0cresent moon to the next.<\/p>\n<p>During Ramadan, some Muslim students, staff, and faculty will be fasting from sunrise to sundown. According to Chaplain Kate Holbrook, this can be a very spiritually centering, rewarding, and also demanding time for students, as well as for staff and faculty.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Chaplain\u2019s Office at Colorado College offers support and resources for members of the campus community who are observing Ramadan, just as they do for those who celebrate and follow other faith traditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn partnership with faculty within the CC Muslim community, we will be hosting\u00a0a dessert gathering late one night, post Iftar meal; students are in all different time zones now, which means they are breaking fast at all different times,\u201d says Holbrook. Contact Chaplain Holbrook for more information\u00a0(<a href=\"mailto:kholbrook@coloradocollege.edu\">kholbrook@coloradocollege.edu<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The CC Muslim community is invited to join the Yale Muslim community for \u201cFriday Reflections\u201d\u00a0(a virtual Jumma reflection) at 12:30 p.m. EST. and\u00a0\u201cRamadan Reflections\u201d\u00a0which will happen\u00a0on Mondays and Wednesdays.
