{"id":422,"date":"2010-03-29T11:36:05","date_gmt":"2010-03-29T18:36:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.coloradocollege.edu\/atb\/?p=422"},"modified":"2010-03-29T11:36:05","modified_gmt":"2010-03-29T18:36:05","slug":"chili-cook-off-stirs-up-competition-camaraderie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.coloradocollege.edu\/atb\/2010\/03\/29\/chili-cook-off-stirs-up-competition-camaraderie\/","title":{"rendered":"Chili Cook-Off Stirs Up Competition, Camaraderie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jane Newberry, executive athletics\u00a0 assistant<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00a0March 17 heralded the celebration of not only St. Patrick\u2019s Day, but also the Second Annual Colorado College Athletics Department Chili Cook-Off.<br \/>\nAn enthusiastic crowd enjoyed a wide variety of chili styles, including the green chili entered by Cecelia Gonzales of facilities services, which took first prize.\u00a0 Closely following was a smoky pork green chili created by Glen Luther, assistant manager of the Honnen ice rink, and a sophisticated wine-infused green chili by Darrold Hughes, athletic field specialist.<br \/>\nIn the red chili category, Athletic Director Ken Ralph took first place.\u00a0 Ann DeStefano, psychology staff assistant, was close behind with an \u201cold-school\u201d red chili (as described by her grandson), but believes she\u2019ll be trying out approximately 365 new versions over the course of next year to try to come in on top.\u00a0 A rookie at chili cook-offs, Budget Director Lyrae Williams had a spicy red entry that was very good.\u00a0 Head soccer coach Horst Richardson and his wife, Helen, entered their famous bison chili, while Assistant Athletics Director Rick Swan brought in Beth\u2019s Best Chili.\u00a0 Jane Newberry, athletics executive assistant, brought in a red competitor \u201cjust like Mom\u2019s.\u201d<br \/>\nThe competition was followed with prizes and a women\u2019s lacrosse contest with Colorado College vs. Skidmore on Washburn field (CC defeated Skidmore College, 14-13).<br \/>\n\u201cWe really enjoy hosting the competition,\u201d said Nancy Luther, athletics office assistant.\u00a0 \u201cIt gives us a chance to see people from all over the campus that don\u2019t always come to see us here.\u201d<br \/>\nThe athletics department sincerely hopes more people enter next year\u2014and remember, you don\u2019t have to enter to come over, taste chili, and have a great time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jane Newberry, executive athletics\u00a0 assistant \u00a0March 17 heralded the celebration of not only St. Patrick\u2019s Day, but also the Second Annual Colorado College Athletics Department Chili Cook-Off.
