{"id":955,"date":"2010-12-08T15:21:14","date_gmt":"2010-12-08T22:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.coloradocollege.edu\/atb\/?p=955"},"modified":"2010-12-08T15:21:14","modified_gmt":"2010-12-08T22:21:14","slug":"krcc-receives-5000-grant-for-local-news-cultural-programming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.coloradocollege.edu\/atb\/2010\/12\/08\/krcc-receives-5000-grant-for-local-news-cultural-programming\/","title":{"rendered":"KRCC Receives $5,000 Grant for Local News, Cultural Programming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KRCC, Colorado College\u2019s NPR-member station, has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Inasmuch Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Delaney Utterback, KRCC\u2019s general manager, said the grant would be used to help support KRCC\u2019s local news and cultural programming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled and grateful for the support from the Inasmuch Foundation and look forward to making our local news and cultural programming even better.\u201d said Utterback.<\/p>\n<p>KRCC\u2019s mission is to offer broadcast radio programming that reflects Colorado College\u2019s commitment to the liberal arts and diverse ideas and people. In 2003, KRCC added news coverage from the state capitol, the \u201cCapitol Coverage Project.\u201d\u00a0 On Jan. 1, 2005, KRCC began broadcasting locally in the form of a weekly news magazine entitled \u201cWestern Skies.\u201d\u00a0 Two years later, \u201cWestern Skies\u201d evolved into KRCC local news with daily news segments broadcast during NPR\u2019s \u201cMorning Edition\u201d and \u201cAll Things Considered.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWestern Skies\u201d recently returned as a monthly news magazine, focusing on a single topic affecting the Pikes Peak region and southern Colorado.\u00a0 In the spring of 2009, KRCC expanded its coverage of local culture and history with the online program \u201cThe Big Something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2007, the station completed the installation of hybrid-digital (HD) broadcasting equipment and upgraded its signal to HD.\u00a0 This included multi-casts with two additional channels of programming on HD2 and HD3, in addition to an HD simulcast of the main channel. HD2 is a mix of national news and music programs.\u00a0 HD3 is a CC student-run station called the Sounds of Colorado College or SOCC.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the station is heard in Westcliffe, Gardner, Limon, Manitou Springs, Trinidad, Buena Vista, Salida, Villa Grove, Canon City, Colorado Springs, La Junta, Raton, N.M., and globally online at www.krcc.org.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KRCC, Colorado College\u2019s NPR-member station, has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Inasmuch Foundation.
