A vital member of the Colorado College community for over six decades, Professor Emeritus of History William \u201cBill\u201d Hochman passed away on March 23, 2019, at 97. Here, Hochman wears the handmade, two-inch peace pin he always wore on his lapel. He started making peace pins with wire and a soldering iron during the Vietnam War and gave them away to students and faculty. Hochman started making the peace pins again during the Iraq War. \u201cBig dough for big boy,\u201d Chef Antonella Di Cristofaro, center, jokes as she tries to show Ben Sommers \u201919<\/strong> how to create pizza dough-sized pieces that are filled with air bubbles. Eventually, classmate Catherine Kahler \u201919<\/strong> stepped in for an assist. Students in the Italian Cooking Half Block class, hosted by Professor of Italian Sal Bizzarro and taught by chefs Domenico Santacroce and Antonella Di Cristofaro from Hotel Ovidius, where their restaurant Santacroce is located in Sulmona, Italy, learned a new authentic recipe each day and then hosted a fundraiser at the end of the block to provide a scholarship for a student to study in Italy later in the year. CC students were taught the history of dishes and then spent their classes getting hands-on lessons in how to make them using ingredients brought to CC by the chefs. Mira Peterson \u201921<\/strong> and Sam Lovett \u201922<\/strong> try to create an Instagram-worthy moment in front of a picturesque mountain while waiting their turn to descend into Box Canyon for a day of ice climbing lessons. Outdoor Education took students new to ice climbing to the Ouray Ice Park in Ouray, Colorado, during a block break trip. The low-cost trip is designed for students who are new to ice climbing and allows them to try out the sport without the investment required to take lessons and purchase or rent equipment.
