Photo by Charlie Lengal.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>Horst Richardson, men\u2019s soccer head coach, joined an exclusive group on Sept. 26 when he picked up career victory No. 500. Sadly, he wasn\u2019t around to enjoy it. While the Tigers defeated the University of Dallas, 40, at CC\u2019s Stewart Field, Richardson was approximately 1,500 miles away near Chicago, attending the funeral of <strong>Chris Quon \u201909<\/strong>, a former player who passed away September 19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m happy about achieving the milestone,\u201d Richardson said, \u201cBut I wish I could enjoy it under different circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richardson joins Ohio Wesleyan\u2019s Jay Martin (557), Keene State\u2019s Ron Butcher (545) and Rowan\u2019s Dan Gilmore (514) as the only Division III coaches to reach the milestone. Five other coaches at the Division I and II levels also have 500 career victories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve had such a wonderful time at Colorado College working with these splendid young men. It\u2019s been a great home for Helen and me. Now I can continue without pressure, working with these great players and achieving other goals,\u201d Richardson said. Richardson has taken his team on an international tour. The<\/p>\n<p>Tigers spent seven days training with E.C. Vitoria, a first. With the help of former goalkeeper <strong>Zac Rubin \u201905<\/strong>, a co-division professional club based in the beach city of Salvador, founder of Brazilian Touch Soccer Tours, the men\u2019s soccer team Bahia, and conducted soccer clinics in conjunction with the spent two weeks in Brazil before officially opening 2009 Favela Project, which uses soccer to improve the lives of training camp in August. Lammers, whose decade of coaching experience includes stints with four other Division I programs, spent the previous three years at Ohio State. Kleisinger returns to the Tigers as a volunteer coach, working primarily with the goaltenders, after serving in a similar capacity from 2000 through 2004. A former standout at the University of Wisconsin, he helped backstop the Badgers to two NCAA championships in the early 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>Former hockey standout <strong>Doug Palazzari \u201974<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>is among five individual inductees scheduled to enter the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame in November as members of the HOF\u2019s 10th Anniversary Class of 2009.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s Volleyball<\/h3>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>The volleyball team earned its 12th consecutive berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament, and for the first time in the program\u2019s history, will be the top seed in its regional.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, a 33-4 overall record and No. 1 ranking in the West Region was not enough for CC to be selected as host of the seven-team regional. Instead, the Tigers will travel to Redlands, Calif., where the University of Redlands will serve as host.<\/p>\n<p>CC is making its 19th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where the Tigers own an 818 alltime record.<\/p>\n<p>CC finished second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season standings with a 122 record in league play. The Tigers also finished second at the SCAC Championship, defeating host Oglethorpe University and DePauw University before falling to No. 12ranked Southwestern University in the finals.<\/p>\n<h3>Men\u2019s Lacrosse<\/h3>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>Guy Van Arsdale, one of the most respected coaches in collegiate men\u2019s lacrosse, took the Colorado College helm in late July.
