{"id":12544,"date":"2017-12-12T13:10:53","date_gmt":"2017-12-12T20:10:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.coloradocollege.edu\/bulletin\/?p=12544"},"modified":"2017-12-12T13:10:53","modified_gmt":"2017-12-12T20:10:53","slug":"professor-tomi-ann-roberts-in-the-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.coloradocollege.edu\/bulletin\/2017\/12\/professor-tomi-ann-roberts-in-the-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Tomi-Ann Roberts in the News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Professor of Psychology Tomi-Ann Roberts was featured in an October\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/10\/10\/us\/gwyneth-paltrow-angelina-jolie-harvey-weinstein.html?_r=0&amp;mtrref=t.co#story-continues-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>New York Times<\/i>\u00a0article<\/a>\u00a0that chronicled\u00a0a history of sexual harassment allegations against film producer Harvey Weinstein.\u00a0In the article, Roberts describes an encounter with Weinstein that occurred in 1984,\u00a0when\u00a0she was waiting tables in New York City and hoping to start an acting career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Among her research interests is the psychological consequences of the sexual objectification and sexualization of girls and women, and she traces her research interest\u00a0in part back to the Weinstein encounter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Roberts, who joined the CC faculty in 1993, co-authored the article \u201cObjectification Theory,\u201d which launched 20 years of research in psychology on self-objectification, and has served on the American Psychological Association\u2019s Task Force on the Sexualization of Girls. Media covering her story since <i>The New York Times<\/i>\u2019 article include <i>Time<\/i>, <i>The Denver Post,<\/i> \u201cAll Things Considered,\u201d \u201cDemocracy Now!,\u201d PBS\u2019 \u201cThird Rail with Ozy,\u201d \u201cColorado Matters,\u201d and CNN International, among others.
