Relocation:\u00a0<\/b>has not happened<\/p>\n

Travel: <\/b>Europe\/Japan, lately limited by being embedded in New Mexico, another country<\/p>\n

Community:\u00a0<\/b>New Mexico is a community \u2014 Pueblo Indian, Hispanic, Anglo, art world, archeology\/anthropology worlds, here still alive, doubtful elsewhere<\/p>\n

Cohort effect:\u00a0<\/b>I still love my CC cohorts, cross-class, specially, in spite of life\u2019s\u00a0 <\/span>depredations.<\/p>\n

Parents:\u00a0<\/b>both passed, one very early, the other departed at 91<\/p>\n

Spouse:\u00a0<\/b>still married<\/p>\n

Children:\u00a0<\/b>one daughter (works in family medicine), one son-in-law (professional artist\/chef\/father), two grandchildren, 6 and 4<\/p>\n

Caregiving:\u00a0<\/b>supported spouse through cancer episode, beat it successfully<\/p>\n

Money<\/b>: not a loved topic, have enough, perennial doubt<\/p>\n

Learning:\u00a0<\/b>remain endlessly curious, books galore, linguistics, genetics, SW archeology, ethnography, ethology\/biology, politics, economic fiascos, fine fiction<\/p>\n

Music:\u00a0<\/b>still love \u201960s\/\u201970s rock, blues, jazz, some classical (J.S. Bach, solo cello suites)<\/p>\n

Health:\u00a0<\/b>so far so good, with requisite meds, dental woes more immediate<\/p>\n

Pets:\u00a0<\/b>long line of cats of all sizes, colors, and intelligences<\/p>\n

Recreation:\u00a0<\/b>walking, hiking, dance, yoga, Japanese long-bow archery<\/p>\n

Paychecks:\u00a0<\/b>in the past<\/p>\n

Colorado College prepared me for higher academia, for much of life\u2019s complications, providing a foundation enabling a relatively unorthodox path through the world of profession, family, and balancing acts. Retirement? Hmm. I am still \u201cworking\u201d on a project, originally as a consultant, now as a board director, of a 15-plus-year effort, involving New Mexico history, art history, three distinct culture groups, a city,a pueblo, and a private developer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Humor:\u00a0<\/b>a \u201cmust\u201d<\/p>\n

Loss: <\/b>learning to cope with loss of family members, friends, career<\/p>\n

Finding meaning:\u00a0<\/b>sounds grandiose, but it is a core value<\/p>\n

Relocation:\u00a0<\/b>this may be with a new spouse or partner, or a decision to live near one\u2019s children<\/p>\n

Travel:\u00a0<\/b>money and time constraints, plus the new, \u201cno fun\u201d air travel<\/p>\n

Community:\u00a0<\/b>see \u201cfinding meaning,\u201d above<\/p>\n

Spouse:\u00a0<\/b>\u201966 CC alumnus, economics, passed away in 2016<\/p>\n

Parents:\u00a0<\/b>father died early, mother still ticking at 96. (I am the \u201clocal daughter.\u201d)<\/p>\n

Adult children:\u00a0<\/b>daughter, CC \u201995, married, position in San Francisco city government, and son, Habitat for Humanity position in Jacksonville<\/p>\n

Caregiving:\u00a0<\/b>see \u201clocal daughter,\u201d above<\/p>\n

New partner:\u00a0<\/b>lucky to have found him!<\/p>\n

Grandchildren:\u00a0<\/b>none yet<\/p>\n

Money:\u00a0<\/b>learning to manage it<\/p>\n

Learning:\u00a0<\/b>a \u201cmust\u201d<\/p>\n

Pets:<\/b>had a dog, had a cat. Newly allergic to cats!<\/p>\n

Health and healthcare:\u00a0<\/b>I am in charge; doctors are merely partners.<\/p>\n

Colorado College had high expectations. We, then, had that for ourselves. This translated into careers that went beyond just a paycheck and into service.<\/span><\/p>\n
