Ta-Nehisi Coates visited with a small group of students to answer questions and sign books before performing a reading for the public and then answering questions posed by Professor Michael Sawyer and members of the public March 28 in Kathryn Mohrman Theater. An event titled \u201cA Conversation with Ta-Nehisi Coates\u201d was just that, as renowned author Coates (above and below right), participated in a discussion facilitated by Michael Sawyer, assistant professor in race, ethnicity, and migration studies and English, and chair of\u00a0 <\/span>the Africana Intellectual Project. Coates discussed his experiences in journalism, growing up in Baltimore, and working on Marvel comics \u201cCaptain America\u201d and \u201cThe Black Panther.\u201d He opened the event, held in late March, by reading an excerpt from his book, \u201cBetween the World and Me,\u201d which won the 2015 National Book Award. <\/span><\/p>\n
