Melanie Auguste '09<\/p><\/div>\n

Auguste, Blaustein named top senior athletes<\/h3>\n

Seniors Melanie Auguste \u201909<\/strong> and Billy Blaustein \u201909<\/strong> were named recipients of the annual Laura Golden and Van Diest Awards as CC\u2019s top female and male student-athletes among the 2009 graduating class.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s Hockey<\/h3>\n

Defenseman Jake Gannon<\/strong>, who served as captain of the hockey team as a senior during the 2008-09 season, was named a recipient of the WCHA\u2019s annual $10,000 Postgraduate Scholarship. Gannon hopes to use the award to pursue a master\u2019s degree in business at Northwestern University. Former CC great Doug Palazzari \u201974<\/strong> is among five individual inductees who will enter the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame in November as members of its 10th Anniversary Class.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s Soccer<\/h3>\n

Led by forward Sarah Wolff<\/strong> \u201910<\/strong>, who also earned the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal for the second consecutive year, 19 members of the women\u2019s soccer team were named to the league’s Academic Honor Roll for 2008-09. The distinction is awarded to those C-USA student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.<\/p>\n

Men’s Lacrosse<\/h3>\n

David Zazzaro resigned to pursue other opportunities after compiling a 52-44 record as head men’s lacrosse coach for the last eight years.<\/p>\n

Kristin Rider '10<\/p><\/div>\n

Women\u2019s Lacrosse<\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin Rider \u201910, Alexa Dougherty \u201909<\/strong>, and Grace Maloney \u201912<\/strong> were named to the 2009 all-West Region teams by the Intercollegiate WLCA. Rider earned first-team honors for the second year in a row, while Dougherty was a repeat selection on the second team. Maloney, also a second teamer, is the first Tiger to earn all-region honors as a freshman since Helen Sneath \u201906<\/strong> in 2003.<\/p>\n

Men’s Tennis<\/h3>\n

Dan Solomon \u201909<\/strong> was named all-conference for the second time after leading the Tigers to sixth place at the 2009 SCAC championships. Solomon, ranked No. 13 in the West Region by the ITA, was the only player to go 4-0 at the competition. He did not lose a set while earning all-tournament honors.<\/p>\n

Britt Swenson '10<\/p><\/div>\n

Women’s Tennis<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Britt Swenson \u201910<\/strong>, who led CC with a 16-1 singles record in 2009, became the first Tiger to be named to the women\u2019s all-SCAC team. She\u2019s also just the second player in league history to earn all-tournament honors at two different positions during the same season. Kelsey Smith \u201909<\/strong> and Deanna Thirkell \u201912<\/strong> were honorable mention all-SCAC selections. Jordan Evans \u201911<\/strong> joined Swenson on the all-tourney team winning both her matches at No. 4 singles.<\/p>\n

Softball<\/h3>\n

Sandy Corliss \u201910<\/strong> and Alyssa Kallweit \u201910<\/strong> received honorable mention in the all-SCAC softball voting for 2009.<\/p>\n

Logan Boccard '09<\/p><\/div>\n

Men\u2019s Track and Field<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Logan Boccard \u201909<\/strong> lowered his own school record in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, chopping .46 seconds off his previous best effort with a 53.61 at the Occidental Invitational. Jackson Brainerd \u201912<\/strong> set a freshman record in the 1,500 meters with a 3:56.14 clocking. Brainerd then won the 5,000 meters and took second in the 1,500 at the 2009 SCAC championship meet, while Max Gerken \u201912<\/strong> turned in a season-best 9:52.78 to claim second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.<\/p>\n

Women’s Track and Field<\/h3>\n

Brittney Moore \u201910<\/strong> set a school record in the 400 meters with 57.69 clocking at the Occidental Invitational, bettering the mark set by All-American Heather O’Brien \u201999<\/strong> in 1998. At the SCAC championships, Moore finished second in the triple jump and third in the 400 to earn all-conference in both events.<\/p>\n

Men’s Basketball<\/h3>\n

Lance Jacobs \u201909<\/strong>, who helped lead CC to a 4-11 mark in league play, earned honorable mention in the all-SCAC voting.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s Basketball<\/h3>\n

Forward Eliese Hansberry \u201910<\/strong> was an honorable mention all-SCAC selection after helping the Tigers go 16-9 overall and record their most victories since 1989-90.<\/p>\n

Swimming and Diving<\/h3>\n

The \u201cBig Cats\u201d set four NCAA qualifying times, 27 school records and 126 lifetime bests at the 2009 SCAC championships. While 15 Tigers made a total of 27 podium appearances in 21 different events, both the men and women finished one position higher than last year in the final standings and scored a record number of points.<\/p>\n

Jordan DeGayner '12<\/p><\/div>\n

Emily Stumhofer \u201909<\/strong> broke five individual records, was part of two record-setting relays, and had two NCAA qualifying standards. With a total of eight school records, she graduated as one of CC\u2019s most dominating swimmers ever. Jordan DeGayner \u201912 <\/strong>set three school records, swam a leg on four record-setting relay teams, achieved two NCAA qualifying standards, and led the Tigers with 48 points. Connor Barton \u201912<\/strong> won the 100 butterfly, was part of four record-setting relays, posted an NCAA qualifying time, and tied for second along with Tom Grossinger \u201911<\/strong> with 46 points.<\/p>\n

CC Athletics Hall of Fame<\/h3>\n

Doug Lidster \u201983<\/strong> (hockey), Arron Lujan \u201995<\/strong> (soccer), and Tom Southall \u201984 <\/strong>(football\/track and field) officially were inducted into the CC Athletics Hall of Fame on May 9.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
