When the Coronavirus pandemic prevented\u00a0Melissa Walker \u201972<\/strong>\u00a0from exploring the great outdoors with her family and friends, she organized a virtual hiking adventure and named it \u201cCoTreK.\u201d Participants added miles by individually walking, hiking, and biking actual miles during the quarantine.<\/p>\n

Since three generations joined CoTreK, Melissa decided that miles could also be counted\u00a0by participating in activities (safely with family members) such as gardening, yoga, street hockey,\u00a0dancing, snow shoveling, fly fishing, etc. Each 15-minute period of activity equaled one mile.<\/p>\n

The CoTreKKers\u00a0completed the\u00a0original goal in the very first week by collectively hiking the 486-mile Colorado Trail.<\/p>\n

During the next seven weeks, they\u00a0completed the Appalachian Trail (2,193 miles) and the Pacific Crest Trail (2,650 miles), and ended the eight-week virtual\u00a0hike in Montana on the Continental Divide Trail (3,100 miles)!<\/p>\n

CC alumni CoTreKKers included Melissa and\u00a0her husband\u00a0Les Goss \u201972<\/strong>,\u00a0Rolle Walker \u201969<\/strong>,\u00a0Winston Walker \u201970, Cindy Brumbaugh Walker \u201971<\/strong>, Priscilla Walker Engeln \u201973<\/strong> and Jay Engeln \u201974<\/strong>, John Goss \u201973<\/strong>,\u00a0and\u00a0Valerie Hanna \u201918<\/strong>. Twenty-five\u00a0other family and friends living in Oregon, Colorado, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Virginia stayed connected through Spring 2020 with photos, weekly mileage, and trail updates. Collectively, the CoTreKKers completed 7,650 miles in eight weeks!<\/p>\n
