{"id":17587,"date":"2022-01-31T11:29:33","date_gmt":"2022-01-31T18:29:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.coloradocollege.edu\/bulletin\/?p=17587"},"modified":"2022-01-31T12:29:18","modified_gmt":"2022-01-31T19:29:18","slug":"get-to-know-the-class-of-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.coloradocollege.edu\/bulletin\/2022\/01\/get-to-know-the-class-of-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Get to Know the Class of 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Colorado College welcomed 628 incoming members of the Class of 2025 and 26 transfer students in August 2021. <\/strong>Students participated in a range of orientation activities, including discussing the Common Read book, \u201cNo Ashes in the Fire: Coming of Age Black &amp; Free in America\u201d by Darnell Moore, and taking part in the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.coloradocollege.edu\/bulletin\/2022\/01\/priddy-experience-sticks-close-to-home\/\">service-oriented Priddy Trips<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The incoming class was selected from <strong>10,969 applicants <\/strong>(the most in CC\u2019s history) and had a <strong>14% admit rate<\/strong>. For the eighth year in a row, more than a quarter of the incoming class self-identify as <strong>students of color (28%) <\/strong>and <strong>7% are international students<\/strong>. In the last decade, the population of students of color and international students has increased by more than 60%, while 10% of this year\u2019s incoming class are first in their families to attend college.<\/p>\n<p>The class features <strong>44 QuestBridge students<\/strong>, <strong>29 gap-semester students<\/strong>, and <strong>62 gap-year students<\/strong>. CC has been partnering with QuestBridge, a nonprofit organization that matches high-achieving, underserved students with opportunities in higher education, since 2013. The <strong>Northeast and West <\/strong>regions of the U.S. are equally represented, with <strong>22.6 % <\/strong>of incoming students hailing from each of those areas; <strong>19.3% <\/strong>of the incoming class comes from <strong>Colorado<\/strong>; <strong>15.8% <\/strong>from the <strong>South<\/strong>; and <strong>12.4% <\/strong>from the <strong>Midwest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, <strong>27% <\/strong>of the class <strong>participated in tutoring\/mentoring <\/strong>in their communities, while more than <strong>50% <\/strong>of students <strong>held a job <\/strong>during the past year, and <strong>55% <\/strong>were <strong>involved in <\/strong>some type of <strong>service-oriented project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic changed the educational landscape for most members of the class: <strong>94% learned <\/strong>either completely <strong>virtually\/ remotely <\/strong>or using some version of hybrid learning their senior year of high school. In addition, many helped to make life better for others during the pandemic. <strong>Among the incoming class are students who: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Founded an organization that donated <strong>10,000 masks <\/strong>to lower-resourced communities<\/li>\n<li>Started an <strong>online tutoring service <\/strong>for disadvantaged youth in \u201cconnectivity deserts\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Established <strong>a food bank <\/strong>that reached more than 4,000 households<\/li>\n<li>Started <strong>a social media platform to connect isolated students <\/strong>during the lockdowns<\/li>\n<li>Worked in a <strong>mask factory <\/strong>in their hometown<\/li>\n<li>Taught themselves to code, then started a remote job as a software engineer developing software to track Coronavirus cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/2cc.co\/welcome2025\">Learn more about the Class of 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Colorado College welcomed 628 incoming members of the Class of 2025 and 26 transfer students in August 2021.
