Perkins, Grossinger Named Top Senior Athletes<\/h3>\n

Emily Perkins '11<\/p><\/div>
\nEmily Perkins \u201911<\/strong> and Tom Grossinger \u201911<\/strong> were named recipients of the annual Laura Golden and Van Diest Awards as CC\u2019s top female and male student-athletes among this year\u2019s graduating class.<\/p>\n

Perkins, a middle blocker on the volleyball team, is one of only two Tigers to earn first-team All-America accolades more than once, receiving the distinction as a junior and a senior. She is the program\u2019s all-time leader with 1,665 kills and 307 block assists.<\/p>\n

Tom Grossinger '11<\/p><\/div>Grossinger, a four-year standout on the men\u2019s swimming and diving team, owns or shares five school records \u2014 all set during his senior season \u2014 in the 100-yard (57.21 seconds) and 200-yard (2:07.87) breaststroke, as well as the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:55.97) along with the 200-yard (1:35.46) and 400-yard (3:29.03) medley relays.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s Lacrosse<\/h3>\n

Zach Hoisington \u201911<\/strong> was named SCAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and was one of seven Tigers to earn first-team all-conference honors.

Zach Hoisington '11<\/p><\/div>Joining Hoisington in that distinction were defender Chris Kolodey \u201911<\/strong>, midfielder James Mauk \u201911<\/strong>, midfielder Buck McKenna \u201911<\/strong>, attackman Carson Christman \u201912<\/strong>, attackman Moses Taylor \u201911<\/strong>, and midfielder Steve Rijo \u201913<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Guy Van Arsdale, who led the Tigers to their second consecutive SCAC title and the program\u2019s first berth in the NCAA Tournament, was named Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.<\/p>\n

Colorado College rallied for an 8-6 victory over Birmingham-Southern College to claim the SCAC\u2019s inaugural playoff title and the program\u2019s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s Lacrosse<\/h3>\n

Nine members of the women\u2019s lacrosse team were honored by the SCAC as part of its first-ever all-conference selections. Midfielder Leslie Jacoby \u201912<\/strong>, midfielder Grace Maloney \u201912<\/strong>, attacker Ellie Cole \u201913<\/strong>, midfielder Anna Crosby \u201913<\/strong>, goaltender Abby Fink \u201913<\/strong>, defender Hollis Moore \u201913<\/strong>, defender Ginna Oates \u201913<\/strong>, and midfielder Sarah Phillips \u201913<\/strong> all received first-team accolades. Midfielder Elise Burchard \u201914<\/strong> was named co-Rookie of the Year, while Susan Stuart was tabbed Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n

Maloney, Fink, and Oates earned all-West Region honors from the Intercollegiate Women\u2019s Lacrosse Coaches Association. Maloney and Fink were first-team selections, while Oates was named to the second team.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s Swimming and Diving<\/h3>\n

Jordan DeGayner '12<\/p><\/div>Jordan DeGayner \u201912<\/strong> was named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America second team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). A biochemistry major with a 3.86 GPA, he is the first CC swimmer and 18th student-athlete overall to earn the distinction since the program began in 1952.<\/p>\n

At the 2011 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, DeGayner earned All-America honors by finishing fourth in the 200 free. His time of 1:38.64 in the prelims set a SCAC open standard and lowered his own school record.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s Tennis<\/h3>\n

Nate Burt \u201912<\/strong>, who played No. 1 singles and doubles, earned honorable mention from the SCAC for his performance during the 2011 season. The Irvine, Calif., native finished third on the squad with a 7-9 individual record and combined with Lionel Zen-Ruffinen \u201913<\/strong> for a team-leading 9-8 doubles mark.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s Tennis<\/h3>\n

Jordan Evans \u201911<\/strong> was named to the all-SCAC Team after leading CC to a 12-7 record. Doubles partner Deanna Thirkell \u201912<\/strong> earned honorable mention.<\/p>\n

Thirkell, who owns a 3.98 GPA as a romance languages major and is pursuing a double minor in education and anthropology, also was named to the Capital One Academic All-District women\u2019s at-large team.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s Track and Field<\/h3>\n

Andrew Wagner \u201911<\/strong> and Jackson Brainerd \u201912<\/strong> qualified for the 1,500-meters at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. The two Tigers took eighth and ninth place in their heat race, Wagner posting a time of 3:59.22 and Brainerd battling a virus to clock in at 4:02.54.<\/p>\n

Wagner earlier set the school record in the 1,500 meters with a clocking of 3:50.85 at the Occidental College Invitational.<\/p>\n

Brainerd and Wagner were among the five Tigers who earned seven all-conference honors at the 2011 SCAC Championships.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s Track and Field<\/h3>\n

Hannah Concannon \u201911 <\/strong>captured third place and all-conference honors at the SCAC championships. She also claimed fifth in the long jump.<\/p>\n

Hall of Fame<\/h3>\n

Four former greats \u2014 Verdel Baskin \u201999<\/strong> (basketball), Glenn Blagg \u201950<\/strong> (wrestling\/football), Sara Fry \u201996 <\/strong>(cross country\/track and field), and Ted Swan \u201977<\/strong> (football) were enshrined in the CC Athletics Hall of Fame on May 14.<\/p>\n
