Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship. The fellowship is the nation\u2019s largest and most prestigious award for Ph.D. candidates in the humanities and social sciences addressing questions of ethical and religious values. Each fellow receives a 12-month award of $25,000. Chelsey is now a doctoral candidate in anthropology at the University of Chicago. Her dissertation, \u201cWe Make the State: The Performance of Political Action in Port-au-Prince, Haiti,\u201d examines the role expressive political action plays in constituting \u201cthe state\u201d as an ethical ideal in Port-au-Prince.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u201902<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Sean Owens<\/strong> has served as a flight surgeon for the U.S. Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., for the past three years. On July 1, he began an anesthesiology residency at Johns Hopkins. She is beginning an orthopedic surgery residency at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, Phoenix.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u201904<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Grace Person \u201904<\/strong> graduated in May 2010, from Vermont Law School, with a master of environmental law and policy degree.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201905<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Blake Hansen <\/strong>graduated from the U.S. Marine Corps Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a second lieutenant on March 18, 2011. He is currently attending The Basic School in Quantico, Va., for six months of training, and hopes to attend infantry school to become an infantry officer. \u2022\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Sharon Milito<\/strong>, a fourth-grade teacher at Patrick Henry Elementary School in Colorado Springs School District 11, was named Earth Science Teacher of the Year in April 2011, by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Sharon received a $5,000 prize \u2014 half for her personal use, and half for the school for educational use under her supervision. The association said Megan \u201cis an extraordinary new librarian who is strongly committed to research and professional activities.\u201d She graduated from Dalhousie University with a master of library and information studies degree in 2007, when she became a liaison librarian at McGill University. \u2022\u00a0<strong>Peter Hudnut <\/strong>first tried slacklining at CC during his freshman year. \u201cI\u2019ve kept at it for the last decade,\u201d he says, \u201cand have taken slack lining to a place where few others do, the sandstone canyons and towers of Moab.\u201d Peter spent two months bolting, rigging, and walking high lines in Moab. James met <strong>John Howe \u201976<\/strong>, a professor of finance at the university. \u201cI was running at the University Recreation Center \u2014 wearing my Colorado College Relay for Life shirt \u2014 when John noticed me and introduced himself,\u201d James says. \u201cHe was kind enough to meet with me and support me through the entire two-year process of getting my MBA.\u201d Since graduation, James has begun a career as a senior analyst with Ascension Health in Austin, Texas.<\/p>\n<h3><strong> \u201908<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Sarah Lee Winstead <\/strong>has graduated from Northwestern University with a master of science degree in marital and family therapy. She lives with her husband, James, in the Bay Area, where she works at a nonprofit counseling practice, and James works as a landscape architect.\u00a0\u2022\u00a0Sweetgrass Productions, a backcountry film crew, features the work of four CC graduates, plus a photographer from Montana. The crew \u2014 which includes director <strong>Nick Waggoner<\/strong>, producer <strong>Ben Sturgulewski<\/strong>, producer <strong>Zac Ramras<\/strong>, and director <strong>Yuki Miyazaki \u201907<\/strong> \u2014 has released a series of ski-and-snowboard documentaries. Their website describes their work this way: \u201cWe focus on the riding, we focus on the art, we focus on blending the two into what we call film, both form and content &#8230; Our films are based in this knowledge that there is more to a mountain than fresh snow and a big line; there are stories to be told.\u201d\u00a0\u2022\u00a0<strong>Justin Behravesh <\/strong>is working as a WorldTeach volunteer for a year in the Marshall Islands. After a month of training near the capital city of Majuro, Justin is living with a Marshallese host family in a rural town near the capital, and is teaching English. While he was earning his bachelor\u2019s degree in sociology, Justin was a mentor and tutor for the North Boys Enrichment Program, and was an active member of a group dedicated to supporting members of the CC community who had been affected by sexual assault.
