Richard Skorman \u201975<\/strong> and his wife, Patricia Seator, conducted a two-day workshop titled \u201cHow to Start and Grow a Community-based Small Business\u201d during the break between Blocks 5 and 6. Using their own local businesses as models, Skorman and Seator, owners of Poor Richard\u2019s, Little Richard\u2019s, and Rico\u2019s in Colorado Springs, discussed with CC students how to develop socially responsible, community-based businesses. The morning sessions were held at CC and the afternoon sessions at Skorman\u2019s businesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter several years of hearing students from all majors express their unique ideas for creating their own businesses and a desire for a more flexible lifestyle that fits their socially responsible values, we thought it would be a good idea to help them do that,\u201d said Darlene Garcia, a career counselor at the CC Career Center, which sponsored the workshop. \u201cWe took advantage of the block break and some amazing local successful business people.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Career Center plans to continue to offer this workshop and similar workshops to meet the students\u2019 needs and the changing economy. They also offer a \u201cHow to Start Your Own Nonprofit\u201d workshop in conjunction with the CC Center for Service and Learning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
