Daniel Junge '92<\/p><\/div>\n

Daniel Junge \u201992<\/strong> won the Academy Award in the category of \u201cDocumentary Short\u201d for his film \u201cSaving Face,\u201d while \u201cThe Descendants,\u201d based on the book of the same name by Kaui Hart Hemmings \u201998<\/strong>, won for \u201cWriting (Adapted Screenplay).\u201d Both Junge and Hemmings attended the 84th Annual Academy Awards event in Hollywood, Calif.<\/p>\n

\u201cSaving Face\u201d focuses on the work of London-based plastic surgeon Mohammad Jawad who travels back to his homeland to treat survivors disfigured by acid attacks, mostly women who were targeted by their own family members. Junge made \u201cSaving Face\u201d with Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.<\/p>\n

Director Alexander Payne and Kaui Hart Hemmings '98<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cThe Descendants\u201d tells the story of Matt King, a wealthy Honolulu attorney and landowner struggling with his legacy, his two daughters, and the loss of his wife. The film was also nominated for \u201cBest Picture\u201d; actor George Clooney was nominated for \u201cActor in a Leading Role\u201d and director Alexander Payne was nominated for \u201cDirecting.\u201d Hemmings has a cameo role in the film, playing the part of Clooney\u2019s secretary.<\/p>\n
