\"\"<\/a>Colorado College has numerous construction projects currently under way on campus. Work has begun on the new $2 million Cheryl Schlessman Bennett Children\u2019s Center, 909 N. Nevada Ave., south of the Children\u2019s Center\u2019s current location. The new center, which is scheduled to open in late August, will accommodate 58 children, nearly doubling the number currently enrolled in CC\u2019s Children\u2019s Center. The old Children\u2019s Center will be converted into short-term housing for faculty and staff.<\/p>\n

Construction of the Cheryl Schlessman Bennett Children\u2019s Center is funded by a gift from the Schlessman family in memory of Cheryl Schlessman Bennett \u201977, an education major who was passionate about children\u2019s welfare.<\/p>\n

CC also is improving access to Shove Memorial Chapel from Nevada Avenue. A much-needed drop-off loop is being constructed between Olin Hall and Shove Chapel to serve the many weddings, funerals, and other events that take place at the chapel. Concrete pedestrian ramps will be enhanced with lighted bollards to improve visibility and safety, and walkway ramps into the street will grant pedestrians a shorter crosswalk distance.<\/p>\n

Other projects include a 25-year agreement between the college and the Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation Department focusing on the operation and maintenance of the tennis courts near Stewart Field; construction and landscaping upgrades to Bemis Circle; and improvements to the parking lot between Armstrong Hall and Slocum Commons.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, progress continues on the $27 million renovation and new construction project at the El Pomar Sports Center, scheduled for completion in spring 2013.
