He was generous in providing <em>pro bono<\/em> legal work for the college, was active as the legacy representative for his class, and served the alumni association and the Friends of the Library. In 1993, Colorado College gave him the Lloyd E. Worner Award, and in 2006, an honorary degree. He is survived by his children, <strong>John &#8217;62<\/strong>, <strong>Jeff &#8217;76<\/strong>, Stephen, and Suellen, and his sister <strong>Mary Haney Lockridge &#8217;43<\/strong>; preceded in death by his wife, <strong>Gratia Belle &#8217;34<\/strong>, brother <strong>James &#8217;39<\/strong>, and sister <strong>Helen Haney Nelson &#8217;35<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#287ED5\">1935<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Hester-Jane Butcher Cogswell<\/strong>, Dec. 7, 2008, in Meeker, Colo.\u00a0 Survived by her six children, Joan, Wilton, Ann, Sally, David, and Gary; 17 grandchildren (including <strong>Wilton W. Cogswell, IV &#8217;87<\/strong> and <strong>Deborah Donner &#8217;83)<\/strong>; 22 great-grandchildren (including <strong>Brittany Donner Roy &#8217;08)<\/strong>; and numerous nieces and nephews (including <strong>Susan B. Cogswell &#8217;70 <\/strong>and <strong>William Hastings Cogswell &#8217;66)<\/strong>; preceded in death by her husband <strong>Wilton W. Cogswell, Jr. &#8217;36<\/strong>, and a grandson, Robert Donner III. Terry was a longtime realtor in Colorado Springs. He was active in the Fifty Year Club and was the permanent president of his Class of 1940. He was named Arizona Journalism Teacher of the Year and received lifetime achievement awards from CSPA and the National Scholastic Press Association. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#287ED5\">1968<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Karla White Tesch<\/strong>, Dec. 12, 2008.\u00a0 She is survived by her husband, John W., and children Heather and Toby.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#287ED5\">1972<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Peter Kevin Martin<\/strong>, April 2008, in Roseville, Calif.\u00a0 He is survived by his brother, <strong>James C. &#8217;69<\/strong>; two nieces; and a nephew.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#287ED5\">1985<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Scott Brendan Slade<\/strong>, Oct. 11, 2008, San Diego, Calif.\u00a0 Scott was a Colorado native whose struggle to live a normal life after he became a quadriplegic was chronicled in the <em>Rocky Mountain News<\/em>.\u00a0 In January 2007, Scott contracted a simple bacterial infection that spread up his spinal column and left him paralyzed.\u00a0 His wife, Kathy, was pregnant, and the shock of her husband&#8217;s illness sent her into premature labor, and she gave birth to twin girls, Samantha and Stephanie. After graduation from Colorado College, he earned his MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona. After he became ill, he spent five months undergoing treatment at Craig Rehabilitation Hospital in Englewood, Colo.\u00a0 He was about to celebrate his first anniversary of returning home to his family in San Diego when he contracted a fatal infection. Scott is survived by his wife and daughters; his parents, Gilbert and Elaine Slade; and his sister, Erin.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#287ED5\">1990<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Philip Edward Buchanan<\/strong>, March 2, 2009, in Portland, Ore. In 1985, his senior year in high school, Phil was diagnosed with a head tumor.\u00a0 For 24 years, Phil met the challenges of managing this cancer through surgeries, radiation therapies, and medications.\u00a0 He and his wife <strong>Wendy Thomas &#8217;91 <\/strong>traveled, skied, canoed, swam, camped, drove Phil&#8217;s 1976 Land Cruiser, listened to music, and laughed together.\u00a0In 2006, Phil became blind; he and Wendy sold their home and his business and move to Portland, Ore.\u00a0Unfortunately, in 2008, Phil&#8217;s health declined.\u00a0He is survived by his wife, their daughter Zoey, and many loving family members and friends.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#287ED5\">2000<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Adam Michael Petrelli<\/strong>, Jan. 23, 2009, in New York City.\u00a0 He is survived by his father, Anthony Petrelli and his wife, Shonya; his mother, Mary Gallo and her husband, Craig; his brothers Brian, Michael, and Caleb; and his sister Katie.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#287ED5\">Friends<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Steve Durand<\/strong>, April 11, 2009, in Colorado Springs. Steve had been the assistant volleyball coach at Colorado College since 2003. He coached club volleyball in Colorado Springs for the last 15 years with Match Point Volleyball and Colorado Springs Altitude. After spending 24 years in the U.S. Air Force as a firefighter, Steve retired as the deputy fire chief at Peterson Air Force Base in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and sons Brian and Kevin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ursula Gray<\/strong>, Jan. 13, 2009, in Colorado Springs.\u00a0\u00a0 She was a beloved creative dance teacher to children and adults at Colorado College from 1954 to 1991. Her daughters, Lisa and Sherry, both of Santa Fe, N.M., were able to celebrate the New Year with her. She was preceded in death by her husband, CC Professor Glenn Gray.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Whitney deMoraes Hendrickson<\/strong>, March 17, 2009, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was in her freshman year at Grinnell College in Iowa. She is survived by her parents, <strong>David C. Hendrickson &#8217;75<\/strong>, a political science professor at Colorado College, and <strong>Clelia Deane deMoraes &#8217;75;<\/strong> her twin brother Wesley; her sister, Marina; her grandparents, Carlos and Elizabeth deMoraes; Frances Hendrickson; and G.D. Spradlin.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Eldon T. Hitchcock<\/strong>, March 3, 2009. He taught chemistry for 35 years at Colorado College, was a founding member of the Christian American Scientific Affiliation and was a lifetime member of the American Chemical Society. He is survived by his children, Renee, <strong>Janine &#8217;86<\/strong>, and <strong>Daniel &#8217;89<\/strong>; preceded in death by his wife, Monique, and brothers Burton and Ben.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lynn S.
