He is the co-founder and managing director of Atlas Preparatory School in Colorado Springs and was profiled in the April 2012 <i>Bulletin.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><b style=\"line-height: 1.65;\">2003<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Mary Voelbel<\/b> was presented an Impact Weaver Award by Friday Consulting, a boutique consulting firm. The award recognizes the internal leaders who work behind the scenes to build a team and operational infrastructure that make a successful organization. Mary received her master\u2019s in human development and psychology from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Scott, second from right, received his black belt from Steve Maxwell, the first person to teach Gracie Jiu Jitsu by the family that brought it to the United States, and was the first American to receive a black belt from the grandson of one of the founders. He teaches Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and fitness classes at The Fight Gym in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.<\/p>\n<p><b>Linda E. Benfield<\/b>, a partner at Foley &amp; Lardner LLP, in Milwaukee, has been recognized as a leading lawyer in her field by <i>Chambers USA: America\u2019s Leading Lawyers for Business<\/i>. Linda lives in Whitefish Bay, Wis., and specializes in natural resources and environmental law.<\/p>\n<p>Work by <b>Christie Ginanni Stepan<\/b> was featured in \u201cOpen Seas\u201d at Kala Gallery in Berkeley, Calif. The group exhibition presented work by artists who explore the idea of borders from a wide range of perspectives. Christie investigated the denaturalization of boundary into path and vice versa; her work presented various intersections and thresholds: a body crossing space, inside with outside, traces existing with present movement. Christie is the creative director at Fancy Ink Press\/Make Studio in Steamboat Springs, Colo.<\/p>\n<p><b>Angela Soto<\/b>, an ex-snowboard instructor, is engaged to pro skateboarder Michael Shearer. The pair started on Springer Mountain in Georgia March 12, 2013, and finished 2,185 miles away on Mount Katahdin in Maine on Sept. 28, 2013.<\/p>\n<h3><b style=\"line-height: 1.65;\">2007<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Elizabeth \u201cLibby\u201d Bushell Veasey<\/b> founded HoWL (Homer Wilderness Leaders) in her native Alaska in 2009. HoWL provides experiential education<br \/>\nfor young people, and Libby credits her success to her experience leading the<br \/>\nCC Outdoor Recreation Club as a student.<\/p>\n<h3><b>2009<\/b><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Skylor Powell<\/b> is launching a program that she has been working on for two years. The Shift Program educates participants on nutrition, emotional eating, and modern-day food systems, and provides the tools to improve their relationship with whole foods. She spent the past three years working as a river guide on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. She plans to pursue the communication of environmental concerns including climate change through various forms of printmaking.<\/p>\n<h3><b>2013<\/b><b><\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Leah Cristina Danze<\/b> has been named a Princeton in Latin America Fellow for 2014-2015. She spent the past year representing migrant farmworkers and Spanish-speaking survivors of domestic abuse as a paralegal for the Battered Immigrant Project and Farmworker Unit at Legal Aid of North Carolina. She interned at Latin American Working Group in Washington, D.C. While a CC student, she helped refugees adjust to life in Colorado Springs and led workshops for Hispanic youth. She will serve as the Developing Minds Fellow in Medillin, Colombia. The fellowship placed 52 fellows with 28 organizations in 16 countries.<\/p>\n<p><b>David Fay<\/b> and <b>Leland Krych<\/b> received a Mountaineering Fellowship Award from the American Alpine Club. The fellowship grants encourage American climbers age 25 and younger to travel to remote areas and seek out climbs more difficult than they might ordinarily be able to do.<\/p>\n<h3>2015<\/h3>\n<p><strong>John Nestler<\/strong> took a semester off in January 2014, to pursue projects\u00a0including a 27-day solo kayak descent of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado\u00a0in the middle of winter. John has released \u201cWhy Rush Through Paradise,\u201d\u00a0a short film detailing his experience, and was featured in the July 2014\u00a0issue of Canoe &amp; Kayak magazine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2001 Bozena C.
