I spent many pleasant hours sorting and collating Dr. Penland’s plant collection, particularly his Penstemon penlandii. I had come to CC interested in a journalism career, though there were no majors in that subject then, but got happily sidetracked into a botany major and a lasting friendship with Dr. Penland instead.

Barbara Coyne ’56

I just received my copy of the Bulletin and am discouraged that there is such a paucity of information from the classes of the ’50s and ’60s!

I thoroughly enjoyed the article “Remembering Glenn Gray” by Dr. Fuller. I was very fortunate, as a chemistry major, to have chosen one of Dr. Gray’s philosophy classes as an elective during my sojourn at CC. He still stands out in my mind as one of the best professors that I was ever exposed to. He was a true scholar in every sense of the word and made me very conscious of the true meaning of a liberal education . . . a staunch advocate of the Latin adages: “Cogito, ergo sum” and “Mens sana in corpore sano.”

Richard D. My parents met Pat at CC and often mentioned his name many years ago.

Mom, Mary Alice “Gibby” Gibbs Bissell ’42, was from Denver and pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma, married Dad after graduation, and raised our family in Colorado Springs after the war. We attended every Homecoming football game, visiting the sorority and fraternity open houses with our parents when we kids were little. It was part of our fun, fall routine.

Mom is 93 now, lives in Broomfield, Colo., and has many fond and similar memories from her CC days just as Pat does. Congratulations and thank you to Pat and his successful scholarship grant. And most of all, thank you to Colorado College for playing an important role in the formation of these and all the remarkable individuals who have received their education there.

Sincerely,
Caroline (Bissell) Cabildo

We welcome your letters to the editor.
