Responsibilities:
Department Overview
Corporate Planning and FP&A serves as committed business partners to other Leaders and departments at Southwest Airlines, providing exceptional analytical support and financial guidance to ensure Southwest Airlines’ prosperity. The department aims to empower Southwest Airlines’ decision makers through collaborative planning, analysis, and insights.
Team Overview
Southwest Airlines FP&A Internships span across several different Teams within the Finance Department. If selected, you will work full-time as a Team Member within one of the following areas:

 

Enterprise – Real Estate
The Properties and Facilities Team supports the Airport Affairs, Corporate Facilities, General Counsel, and Governmental Affairs departments. The Team provides analytical, planning, and financial budgeting and forecasting support to these departments to enable efficient and profitable operations.
CS&S – The Ground Operations team supports all 100+ ground stations SWA serves in addition to Cargo & Charters, Safety & Security, Provisioning and Customer Service & Support. The team is responsible for budgeting, forecasting and providing analysis on all headcount and operating expenses to support an efficient Operation.
Revenue Forecasting – Working within the Commercial pillar of Financial Planning and Analysis (“FP&A”), the Revenue Team provides financial analysis and reporting on operating revenue, commercial budgets, Customer experience, as well as economic and broader industry trends. The Revenue Team partners primarily with Commercial departments (Revenue Management, Marketing, Networking Planning, Customer Relations) to track and assess performance, but also provides support for Investor Relations, Executive Leadership, and other departments throughout the organization. Principal deliverables track revenue performance and other relevant operating metrics to provide critical context around current trends for both Southwest and the industry to aid in sound decision making.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with modeling the financial impact of changes to our route network, flight schedule, fleet strategy, and product offering.
Assist with identifying key financial industry metrics and modeling the relationship of these metrics to the financial performance of Southwest Airlines.
Build new or improve upon existing FP&A financial and profitability reports by partnering with other commercial departments, such as Revenue Management, Network Planning, Finance, and Marketing.
Assist with analyzing the performance and strategy of competitor airlines, and identifying the potential impact to Southwest.

 

Qualifications:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

 

EDUCATION:
Progress towards degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Aviation Management, or related field.
Minimum Sophomore level.
To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours).
Maintained 2.75 or above GPA.

 

EXPERIENCE:
Experience forecast modeling in a professional or academic environment preferred.
Experience creating data visualization using Tableau preferred.
Experience using excel to create formulas and graphs required.
Looking for an individual who is self-motivated.
Able to work with minimum guidance and professional in their conduct.

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:
Must possess a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Able to use Excel to create pivot tables and utilize V-Lookups using Excel.
Able to use Word to write memos communicating the result of their work.
Able to use PowerPoint to build presentations for verbal communications.
Intermediate Accounting knowledge preferred.
Experience with forecast modeling gained through academic projects or internships preferred.
Possesses a working knowledge and experience with Think-cell preferred.
Knowledge of how to arrive at quantitative solutions.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

PAY:
