We seek to elevate our organizational story and positioning through increased media mentions of The Public Interest Network\u2019s campaigns and more interviews with our leadership and subject matter experts. Enhanced visibility should lead to greater name recognition, political clout and donations for The Public Interest Network to advance its causes.<\/p>\n<h2>Responsibilities:<\/h2>\n<p>The Communications Associate may be involved in communications strategy, writing, copy editing, networking and story pitching. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Communications\/Media Strategy:<\/strong>\u00a0Assist in developing communications strategies for ongoing and new campaigns.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Writing:<\/strong>\u00a0Assist in writing news releases, position statements and internal memos.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Copy editing:<\/strong>\u00a0Edit internal and public-facing writing for consistency and clarity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>List building:<\/strong>\u00a0Build and maintain list of media contacts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Networking:<\/strong>\u00a0Add to network media lists through outreach to journalists.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Story pitching:<\/strong>\u00a0Pitch stories to journalists using persuasive writing skills that match our stories to journalists\u2019 needs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Digital communication:<\/strong>\u00a0Use social media to promote content, find journalists and pitch stories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Qualifications:<\/h2>\n<p>You:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are a concise communicator who can advocate for causes and translate complex topics into layman\u2019s terms<\/li>\n<li>Have writing samples that will impress even a grizzled old journalist<\/li>\n<li>Are a leader who takes initiative and learns from mistakes<\/li>\n<li>Are goal-driven and results-oriented<\/li>\n<li>Are ready to fight for a better world but don\u2019t see everyone who disagrees with you as the enemy<\/li>\n<li>Have at least a bachelor\u2019s degree and excellent academic credentials<\/li>\n<li>Preferably have 1-3 years of experience in public\/media relations, marketing or journalism<\/li>\n<li>Have extensive working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn<\/li>\n<li>Preferably have prior experience volunteering or working with a nonprofit organization or political campaign<\/li>\n<li>Can make a two-year commitment to the position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Location:<\/h2>\n<p>Denver<\/p>\n<h2>Compensation &amp; Benefits:<\/h2>\n<p>Compensation for this position is commensurate with relevant professional experience and\/or advanced degrees.
