For over 50 years, the American Society of Magazine Editors has sponsored the\u00a0Magazine Internship Program\u2014a ten-week program for rising college seniors at magazines in New York and Washington. Since the program was founded in 1967, 2,000 college students have worked as ASME interns. Nearly 500 have gone on to successful careers in print and electronic journalism.<\/span><\/p>\n

ASME is now accepting applications for the ASME Magazine Internship Program 2019<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>The Magazine Internship Program usually gives preference to students who have been nominated by academic departments and career-guidance offices over other applicants from the same school. Plan ahead to ask for a nomination from someone who knows you well.<\/span><\/p>\n

ASME interns participate in a three-day orientation program and learn\u00a0the fundamentals of reporting, fact checking and copy editing. Over\u00a0the course of the summer, ASME interns attend special events in\u00a0New York and Washington and meet regularly with top editors.<\/p>\n

ASME interns report, edit, fact-check and copy-edit for print and\u00a0online publications. They may sometimes interview celebrities, attend\u00a0press conferences and work the red carpet\u2014but most of the summer\u00a0they do the un-glam but essential work of magazine journalism.<\/p>\n
