Mike Shum<\/a> is a Chinese-American filmmaker and journalist who specializes in documentary directing and cinematography.<\/p>\n

According to Mike, “Graduating from college is scary, but that’s okay – because you can use that fear as a tool for things to come. My experiences have ranged from embedding in rebel insurgencies in Libya and Congo (DRC) to producing an award-winning feature documentary film, all because I embraced fear, rather than avoiding it.”<\/p>\n

About Mike:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mike Shum is a Chinese-American filmmaker who specializes in documentary directing and cinematography. He graduated from Colorado College in 2007 with a major in Sociology and minors in African Studies and Film Studies.<\/p>\n

Mike now blends his academic background into a career as a documentary filmmaker and video journalist. He is the director of photography and producer for the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival Audience Award Winner, Hondros\u00a0<\/em>–\u00a0a documentary about the life and work of famed photojournalist, Chris Hondros. He was nominated for a News and Documentary Emmy for his work with The New York Times in Iraq and has since collaborated on films with Al Jazeera Witness, PBS Frontline, Time Magazine and National Geographic. He currently works and resides in Denver, CO.<\/p>\n
