On Monday, Nov. 9, 7:00 PM<\/strong>, <\/span><\/span>Prof. Derek Kennet<\/strong> (University of Chicago) will present \u201cAncient trade talk: The Romans in India and the Indian Ocean<\/strong>,<\/span><\/span>\u201d at the CU Museum of Natural History.<\/span><\/strong> This lecture will look at the fascinating question of Roman trade in the Indian Ocean and the extensive Roman presence in the western Indian Ocean, with Roman coins and amphorae turning up in the Red Sea, the Gulf and in India itself. Attendance in person or by Zoom: link to register<\/a>.<\/p><\/li>\n\n\n\n Virtual Meetings, Lectures, Symposia<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Wednesday, Sept. 23, 6:00 MST<\/strong><\/span>, Prof. Eric Cline<\/strong> (Classics and Anthropology, The George Washington University) will present the first AIA Archaeology Hour talk of the 2026-27 season: \u201cHomer, Hollywood, and Historical Context: Comments scribbled in a Bronze Age Archaeologist\u2019s Notebook<\/strong><\/span>.\u201d This lecture will briefly put two movies (2004’s Troy<\/em> and 2026’s The Odyssey<\/em>, which have brought Homer\u2019s epics to the silver screen) into historical context by discussing what we know (or think we know) about the end of the Late Bronze Age, the identity of the Sea Peoples, whether there was actually a Trojan Horse, and other questions that are likely to have come up around the dinner table Link to register<\/a>.<\/p><\/li>\n\n\n\n On Thursday, Sept. 24, 13:00 pm MST<\/strong><\/span>, panelists Eric Cline, Kim Shelton, and Alex Joffe <\/strong><\/span>will lead the webinar \u201cDigging into The Odyssey: An Epic Reimagined or a Misinterpretation of Epic Proportions?<\/span><\/strong>\u201d The webinar is sponsored by the American Society of Overseas Research.
