Dr. Rebecca Wingo presented an overview of the DLA field, drawing on her experience as the DLA Post-doc at Macalester College. Specifically, Dr. Wingo discussed the structure of Macalester\u2019s DLA program, presented a number of faculty research projects, and shared her experiences teaching and supporting digital-based courses.<\/p>\n

Dr. Rebecca Wingo shared her work with the Rondo Community Partnership that she established while at Macalester, the History Harvest community archive (built in Omeka) and the projects that ensued from establishing long-term community partnerships<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Skype Presentation | What’s for News? The “News Diet” and the Meaning of the Newspaper for Ordinary Early-Twentieth-Century Americans<\/h4>\n

Dr. Hulden presented her digital research project that addresses the \u201cnews diet\u201d of ordinary early-twentieth-century Americans. She shared her data sources from the Chronicling America Project and how her methodology and analysis draws upon digital tools for topic modeling (more about topic modeling here<\/a>). Lastly, Dr. Hulden shared her preliminary research findings from a case study of newspapers from St. Louis, Missouri.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Skype Presentation | Text Encoding and Digitalization in the Classroom<\/h4>\n

Presentation | The Mapping Oil Project: Digital Research and Pedagogy from the Ground Up<\/h4>\n

Dr. Stanford-McIntyre presented her research into the daily lives and politics of oil industry workers, addressing issues of environmental racism. She also discussed how she developed her project through a variety of digital tools, primarily GIS mapping software, and shared advice for faculty that want to embark on a digital research project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Digital Front Range Symposium<\/span><\/h1>\n

UNIVERSITY OF DENVER | MAY 5, 2018<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n

Colorado College participated in the first ever Digital Scholarship in the Front Range event held on May 8th at the University of Denver. Jennifer Golightly (ITS) and Tip Ragan (History) presented on their project, Policing Homosexuality: 18th Century Paris<\/a>, as well as two DLA courses<\/a> they co-taught during the Spring of 2018. Michael Sorensen (DLA Intern) also lead a workshop entitled “Analyzing Humanities Data with Nodegoat”. The event included faculty and staff from CU Boulder, CU Denver, University of Denver, US Air Force Academy, Red Rocks Community College, University of Wyoming, Iliff School of Theology, Colorado School of Mines, National Institute of Corrections, and CSU Pueblo.<\/h4>\n
