This is an exciting time for the Tiger community! This Friday, July 18, CC will become the first non-service-academy college campus in the country to serve as the main venue for the Department of Defense Warrior Games. The action kicks off at 8 a.m. with a powerlifting competition in Reid Arena. From there, the momentum builds for the next eight days as 200 military service members compete in a number of adaptive sporting events as part of their recovery from injury or illness.
I want to thank many of you for being part of this journey—by volunteering your time to welcome these warriors to campus and helping to make their experience one they’ll remember for a lifetime and by supporting the athletes and their families by watching them compete. We encourage each of you to take in a wheelchair rugby match or a sitting volleyball game and witness this historic moment. Plan ahead by checking out the full schedule of events linked on our helpful Warrior Games at CC webpage. A reminder that all open events are free and attendance is based on venue capacity.
Be mindful of traffic, parking, and road closures as you make your way to campus July 18 – 26. You may need an extra few minutes to get to your office. Cascade Avenue will be closed this Friday morning from 5:30 – 10 a.m. from Uintah to Boulder Street as cyclists practice timed trials for Saturday morning’s cycling event. Again, check out our webpage for all the details on parking and street closure impacts. Check with your supervisor to find out if working remotely is an option on some of those days.
Definitely make your way to campus next Tuesday, July 22, for CC Day at the Warrior Games! We have a slate of entertainment planned for you to enjoy, most of it happening between noon and 2:30 p.m. on Cutler Quad and inside Worner Center. From ice cream (yay Josh & John’s!) to listening to our fabulous student jazz musicians performing on stage, to facepainting and a balloon artist/magician for the kids. You’ll also get the chance to make your own art creations inside Worner as well as take advantage of discounts at the FAC! You’ll find all the details on our webpage.
Enjoy this historic time for CC as we welcome the Warrior Games to campus and let’s give everyone a warm Tiger Welcome!
