Over the past five years, the Stroud Scholars Program has been a place of learning, growth, and community. We’re proud that over 90% of Stroud Scholars have gone on to college, and we are deeply grateful for the many ways you have contributed. Through serving as thought partners and collaborators, supporting the design and implementation of the program, and directly working with Stroud Scholars, your partnership has enriched this experience for our students and we are grateful.
From the very beginning, Stroud has sought to open doors — both to higher education broadly and to Colorado College. While we’ve been successful in opening doors to college, fewer Stroud scholars have chosen to walk through the CC door than we had hoped. Across three matriculating cohorts (62 students), only 10 (16%) of Stroud Scholars have chosen to enroll at Colorado College, and two of these students have left the college.
In light of this, and with appreciation for all who have been part of this program’s journey, I’m writing to share that the College has made the decision to sunset the Stroud Scholars Program after current cohorts complete the program in 2028. We will fulfill all commitments already made to students accepted into the program and continue to support them through graduation. Moving forward, we turn our focus toward programming and resources that enable and prepare students to thrive specifically at CC.
We remain committed to the Colorado Springs community, and teams across the College will continue to support campus/community partnership, including engagement with local schools and youth.
Thank you for your commitment to supporting the post-graduate pathways of youth in our community. While Stroud will conclude in 2028, its spirit will live on in programming that builds on its values and strengths.
If you have questions or would like to talk more about this transition, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office.
Sincerely,
