We asked our student workers about their experiences starting their journey at CC. This is how they answered…
From Addison Ordner, ’28:
What is your best tip for staying on track/focused throughout the block?
My best tip for staying locked in throughout an entire block would be to establish a solid daily routine within the first week of the class. Your routine will definitely vary block to block depending on the demands of the class and outside commitments, but creating a study plan, knowing what time of day you work best, and giving yourself personal deadlines are great ways to prevent procrastination and make your workload feel more manageable. Personally, I’ve found that doing my work immediately after class/lunch is when I am the most motivated, and I know I will be done with assignments before dinner time and will have the whole evening to myself to make plans, rest, or attend to other commitments.
What club/activity/org would you join again if you were starting all over?
If I were starting all over, I’d 10000% join CCSGA again! I’ve found it’s an incredible way to connect with students and groups all over campus, and is a great way to gain professional development in specific roles/skills while giving back to the student body.
What is one underrated dorm essential that you couldn’t live without?
I could not live without my giant fluffy rug— I am a firm believer that a rug makes a house a home. Not only does it bring more color and comfort to the room, but it also unifies both sides of the room if you’re living with a roommate. A close second would have to be clip-on fans, because they are so easy to clip/hang anywhere and prevents the room from feeling stale.
From Emily Silva, ’26
What is your best tip for staying on track/focused throughout the block: I think keeping a schedule and time management is most important. It helps me to write down my schedule every day and keep track of what I have to do in order to maximize my work and free time. It’s also very important to know your limits and to take breaks when you need them.
What club/activity/org would you join again if you were starting all over: My heart has belonged to Dance Workshop since my first time in fall of 2022. It’s such an amazing community where everyone, regardless of experience, can dance, express themselves, feel amazing, and hype each other up! Even if you’ve never danced a day in your life, I think everyone should do it at least once.
What is one underrated dorm essential that you couldn’t live without: I love my electric kettle, it’s really gotten me through some very cold mornings!
