Our New Vice President for Student Life/Dean of Students

Dear Students, Staff, and Faculty,

I’m very pleased to announce that Lacy Karpilo will be Colorado College’s new vice president for student life and dean of students. She will work part-time starting June 1, and will be full-time in her role on campus starting July 1.

Lacy is currently vice president for student affairs at Eastern Oregon University, a regional public university with 2,700 students. There, she oversees DEI, accessibility services, housing/residential life, the student union and activities. She also leads student health and counseling, as well as academic advising, career services, and the testing center. Her experience, skills, and education in psychology will serve CC’s students well.

Prior to Eastern Oregon, Lacy was interim associate vice chancellor for enrollment services, associate vice chancellor of student access, advising, and transition/student affairs, and director of residence life at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She also served in leadership and other roles in residential life at the University of Puget Sound, Colorado State University, and the Art Institute of Colorado.

Search Chair and Vice President/Director of Athletics Lesley Irvine said, “Lacy’s skillset and experience are a terrific match for CC. She brings a counseling background, passion and experience for ADEI and campus wellness work, knowledge in operational areas, relationship-building, and strategic thinking. As a current vice president, she will arrive ready with leadership skills and outstanding ideas to immediately lead Student Life.”

Lacy also shared her excitement about joining Colorado College.

“There are an overwhelming number of reasons why I am thrilled to join the Colorado College community, but the number one reason is the people,” she said. “The students, faculty, staff, and leadership are exceptional, and I am inspired by CC’s dedication to creating an inclusive campus environment that prepares students for lifelong learning and leadership.”

Lacy earned a Ph.D. in education and human resources from Colorado State University, an M.A. in counseling psychology from the University of Denver, and a B.A. in psychology from Occidental College.

I am grateful for Lesley Irvine, the search committee, everyone on campus who took the time to participate in meeting the candidates and providing feedback, and search firm WittKiefer, who dedicated themselves to finding the right person to serve students and the college as our new vice president for student life/dean of students.

Thanks also to Dean of the College Pedro de Araujo, who has overseen Student Life and ensured continuity in the division since Rochelle Dickey retired from the college in March.

Watch for opportunities to meet Lacy and welcome her to CC after her arrival on campus in July.
